Post Six: The Interview Process

I was glad to see that one of the assigned chapters in "The Bedford Researcher" discussed conducting interviews. Mike Palmquist notes that interviews can be of the question and answer type or free-flowing and informal in nature. For my research project, I plan to utilize personal interviews (two or three).

I will develop and use a list of prepared questions but also, want to keep our discussion somewhat informal. The questions will be primarily open-ended so I might gain a clearer picture of the process that each individual went through when they were trying to decide how they would pay for graduate school. In addition to finding out what resources are available, I would like to know what other considerations are important in this process and why.

  1. Keep in mind that you'll need to write something up for me for each of your interviews and include the quotes you plan to use in your project...so choose your interview subjects carefully and stick to one or two.
